Fixed Plant Oils as Carriers
- Introduction
Fats and oils are part of us; they feature in our food, our structure; they are vital to our life and we start consuming them in mother's milk; they provide reserves of energy during the active years and in old age fats are very necessary. What is not well understood by the majority of people is that there are many different fats and oils, each with its own make up and each having a role to play that is sometimes unique. - We have to choose the appropriate kind of oil or fat for the situation in which we find ourselves, and for nutrition, the difference between the various types of fats produced in nature are becoming better understood.
- When it comes to massage, however, perhaps there is not enough appreciation by the therapists of the properties and uses of the many vegetable oils available to them. Everyone is aware that oils are used extensively in skin care preparations to improve the condition of the skin, nails and hair and it is hoped that this web site, with all its shortcomings, will extend the knowledge and uses of vegetable oils, thus helping to bring greater health benefits to all who use them.
- To use plant oils properly and to best advantage, it is necessary to study and understand their varied constituents: Their composition will influence the choice of oil to achieve a particular end. There is a therapeutic cross reference table in the final section of this site, to act as a guide to the use of oils, but each oil, together with its composition and properties, is listed alphabetically in the other sections and it is here that the reader will find pertinent detailed advice.
